These are pictures of samples and materials for the polymer clay class taught July 22, 2005 on OSA Classes.

Dragon boat covers. These covers are glued to matboard to add extra bulk so they don't break. The matboard has holes punched for the spine's binding.

Beads baked on a round toothpick. Bake the beads on the toothpick so the hole doesn't collapse. Cut rectangles and triangles from leftover clay trimmings, roll on the toothpicks and bake with your other clay items. You'll have beads to add to the fibers on your book's spine.

Butterfly book. Check out the binding. It's carpet thread, already waxed and much, much cheaper than the waxed linen thread. You can color it ala Heather Taylor, using your stamp pads. I just went in from the back and out the front 4 times and tied it off for each hole. Simple, quick and effective.*

This book cover was underbaked and you can see the back cover has cracked. She is transluscent clay, baked, then rubbed with brown paste shoe polish. The window was punched with the lid of a discarded empty bottle of oil.

Use embellishments you find. These flat marbles can enhance an image because you can see through them.

Emperor's robe. This is an example of what not to do. The pattern in the center of the robe is elusive because I didn't press hard enough when I rolled the image, face down, on the clay. I also pulled the clay off the stamp and it warped. Remember to ink your stamp before you roll it onto the clay or it will give you fits trying to get it off. yup yup yup

Use graduated templates to layer. I use cardboard templates I make myself because the ones you purchase are ever so costly.
